After finding a fellowship

Once you’ve found a fellowship that interests you, go to the Current Fulbright Fellows page to learn about recently successful proposals. We also recommend that you speak with Fulbright and other alumni about their experiences in the US. Staff at USIEF and our Alumni page can put you in touch with people in your field who will gladly answer your questions.
Selection committees seek talented individuals with projects that are relevant to India and the United States. The committees are looking for candidates who have the potential to be effective cultural ambassadors.

Eligibility Criteria for the Visiting Senior Fellowship Program in the United States in 2023

Candidates must be at least 5 years old to apply for a Ph.D., but they may also have an equivalent accomplishment rather than a Ph.D. Candidates who are currently affiliated with the National Gallery of Arts are ineligible; this scholarship does not take into account the candidate’s age or nationality; and outsiders who are arts and history scholars will continue to serve on the selection committee.

1)How do you apply to be a visiting fellow?
Ans Applicants must be postdoctoral researchers. PhD students should apply to the scheme for Visiting Research Students instead. Visiting Fellows should participate in the department’s research life by attending seminars and other events related to their research.

2)What level of fellowship is available to Indian citizens?
Ans Candidates who have qualified for the UGC-NET or the UGC-CSIR joint test are eligible for the fellowship. They must have a master’s degree with at least 55% in Humanities, Science, or Social Science. Candidates must be no older than 30 years old.

3)Will the fellowship raise my salary?
Ans Fellows can expect to earn between $60,000 and $70,000 per year, depending on the programme. Some fellows have reported a 20% increase in salary following residency. While fellows are typically paid more than residents, they do not earn as much as physicians practising in their specialty.

4)Who can apply for a fellowship?
Ans Applicants must be of Indian origin (as defined by the Government of India) or citizens of India. A university degree or five years of equivalent work experience is required. Although not required, a few years of work experience in a demanding environment is highly recommended.

Ans Although visiting scholars and scientists do not have formal teaching responsibilities, they may be invited to present specialised seminars or lectures.
