On December 18, 2020, the Punjab Chief Minister launched the second phase of the Captain Smart Connect scheme via virtual mode. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this Free Smartphone Distribution initiative enabled seamless e-learning in government schools. The Captain Smart Connect Scheme Phase 2 launch event was marked by the distribution of smartphones to 80,000 government school students in the 12th grade.
Captain Smart Connect Scheme smartphones were distributed to 845 schools across the state by various ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries. In addition, 877 tablets were distributed to students from 22 senior secondary schools. Smartphones and tablets will equip students to meet the educational challenges of pandemics.
