What is PRAN (NPS) Account for AP Govt Employees?

PRAN means Permanent Retirement Account Number, which is provided to NPS subscribers. AP Government employees contribute monthly into NPS, and the corpus is invested through pension fund managers. Your retirement benefits and pension are linked with PRAN, especially under Tier-I account.

Important: Withdrawals are mostly allowed only from NPS Tier-I account based on rules. Tier-II works like a voluntary savings account and has more flexibility.

AP PRAN NPS Withdrawal Rules 2026 – 3 Main Types

1) Partial Withdrawal in Service (25% Rule)

During service period, NPS allows Partial Withdrawal from PRAN. Under AP PRAN NPS Withdrawal Rules 2026, an employee can withdraw only up to 25% of their own contribution.

  • Allowed: Up to 25% from employee contribution
  • Not Allowed: Govt contribution cannot be withdrawn
  • Account: Only Tier-I eligible

Eligibility Conditions for Partial Withdrawal

  • Minimum 3 years NPS membership is compulsory
  • Maximum 3 withdrawals allowed during entire service
  • Minimum 5 years gap between two withdrawals
  • Medical emergency cases may get relaxation in gap rule

Permissible Reasons (Why Partial Withdrawal is Allowed)

NPS partial withdrawal is not for regular expenses. It is allowed only for approved reasons:

  • Children higher education
  • Children marriage
  • House/flat purchase or construction
  • Medical treatment for serious illness (self/spouse/children/parents)
  • Self-employment / skill development

2) Retirement (Superannuation) Withdrawal – 60% + 40% Rule

After retirement, an AP employee can withdraw NPS corpus as per the standard rule:

  • 60% can be withdrawn as lump sum (one-time)
  • 40% must be used to purchase Annuity (Pension)

Big Benefit: As per NPS guidelines, the 60% lump sum withdrawal is tax-free. So retirement withdrawal is one of the best advantages of NPS for Govt employees.

Special Benefit: 100% Withdrawal if Corpus is ≤ ₹5 Lakhs

If total NPS corpus is ₹5,00,000 or below, then the subscriber can withdraw 100% amount in lump sum. In such cases, annuity is not compulsory.

3) Premature Exit (Leaving Job Before Retirement)

If an employee resigns or leaves service before retirement, then NPS withdrawal is restricted. Under AP PRAN NPS Withdrawal Rules 2026, this is treated as premature exit.

  • Minimum 10 years of service is required
  • 20% can be withdrawn as lump sum
  • 80% must be converted into annuity (pension)

Special Exemption: 100% if Corpus ≤ ₹2.5 Lakhs

If total corpus is ₹2,50,000 or below, then subscriber can withdraw full amount without annuity requirement.
