About Water Resources Department, Karnataka:
The Water Resources Department is one of the major departments in the Government of Karnataka.It is headed by the Hon’ble Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation. The Department harnesses Surface Water for Irrigation and Drinking Water Purposes.
The Irrigation projects are classified into two categories, as indicated below depending upon the extent of culturable command area (CCA)
The Water Resources Department consists of four major corporations-Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited and Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam Limited and they are established in the years 1994, 1998, 2003 and 2016 respectively. These four corporations are unique establishments of the state of Karnataka as these are envisaged as Special Purpose Vehicles for speedy implementation of irrigation projects.
