About Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati
SVIMS (Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences) was conceived in 1986 on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi. It is managed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). The foundation stone of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was laid on 18th April 1986 by Late Sri. N. T. & Rama Rao, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the pilgrim town Tirupati. The hospital started functioning from 26th February 1993 by an Act of Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. SVIMS became a University in 1995 by an act of Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. It was recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI) in 2003 for organizing different courses like DM, M.Ch. and MD courses. In 2006, the Govt. of India included SVIMS University as one of the institutions for upgradation at par with AIIMS, New Delhi under the PMSSY (Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana) scheme.
