Brief History of the APGLI Department
Among the oldest departments in the state is the APGLI Department. For the benefit of his workers, the Nizam of the former State of Hyderabad launched the Scheme in 1907. The program was renamed the “Andhra Pradesh Government Life Insurance Fund” following the state of Andhra Pradesh’s establishment in 1956.
The first meeting of the Managing Committee, which had four members, a secretary, and a president upon the creation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, took place on September 25, 1957. The meeting was presided over by Sri B. Gopala Reddy, the Honourable Finance Minister at the time.
The department operated out of a single office in Hyderabad until 1976, when it underwent a reorganization that resulted in the opening The government then reorganized the Department once more in 1998, introducing 23 District Insurance Offices in place of the four Regional Offices. On March 1st, 2014, the President granted his assent to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which called for the division of Andhra Pradesh.
